The Supreme Court has rejected a Republican-backed congressional map in Missouri that could have given the GOP an additional competitive House seat, according to CNN.
The unsigned ruling means Missouri will likely return to an earlier map with six GOP-leaning seats rather than seven. The decision is a setback for President Donald Trump’s broader effort to gain an advantage through congressional redistricting ahead of the 2026 elections.
The dispute centered on the 5th Congressional District, represented by Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. The proposed map would have broken up its Kansas City base and added more Republican-leaning territory.
The Trump administration had urged the Supreme Court to keep the new map, arguing that changing districts between elections could violate voters’ equal-protection rights.
Despite the Missouri setback, Republicans have gained a net redistricting advantage of nine seats nationwide, the report said.
