Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei warned Tuesday that Middle Eastern nations would “no longer serve as shields” for American military bases, according to remarks carried by Iranian state television.
In a written Eid al-Adha message, Khamenei said the United States was steadily losing its regional influence and no longer had secure locations for “aggression and the establishment of military bases.”
The statement comes as Tehran and Washington continue indirect exchanges aimed at ending the conflict that began on Feb. 28.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said both sides have reached understandings on several issues, though officials cautioned that a final agreement remains distant. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since Apr. 8.
The remarks also followed claims by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards that they had downed a U.S. drone and confronted other aircraft near Iranian airspace. Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command said Monday that American forces struck missile sites and boats allegedly attempting to lay mines near southern Iran.
State media also reported explosions near Bandar Abbas, though Iranian authorities did not officially confirm a U.S. strike.
