Iran President Signals Opening To Renewed U.S. Peace Talks

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has signaled that Tehran could respond immediately if the United States returns to the terms of a June agreement intended to end the conflict between the two countries.

Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday, Pezeshkian said Iran would take reciprocal action if Washington restored the earlier memorandum of understanding, according to Iran’s presidency.

Pezeshkian also warned that renewed U.S. pressure or threats could undermine efforts to pursue diplomacy.

His comments came as he prepared to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit. The gathering is hosted by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a Russia- and China-backed bloc that seeks to strengthen cooperation outside traditional Western-led institutions.
