Iran says US proposals concerning its nuclear program conflict with Tehran’s conditions for ending the war, according to an unnamed senior Iranian official cited by Reuters.

The official responded to Vice President JD Vance’s comments that Iran would need to make a meaningful reduction in its nuclear enrichment capacity to bring the conflict to an end. Tehran said Washington is entitled to make proposals, but they currently do not align with Iran’s demands.

According to Reuters, the Iranian official is involved in indirect discussions with the United States. He said nuclear issues have not yet been formally negotiated and argued that Washington must first meet Iran’s conditions, including lifting a blockade affecting Iranian ports.

Iran continues to regard its right to enrich uranium as a non-negotiable position. However, the official suggested that while Tehran would not abandon that right, specific details surrounding enrichment could potentially be discussed later.

The comments indicate that limited room for negotiations may exist, despite major disagreements over the conditions for ending the war.
