Iran’s new Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) chief, Mohammad Pakpour, vowed to unleash the “gates of hell” on Israel after Israeli strikes killed top Iranian generals and scientists Friday, including his predecessor, Hossein Salami.

Hours later, Iran retaliated with a missile barrage, triggering air raid sirens across Israel. Explosions rocked Jerusalem and smoke billowed in Tel Aviv. Israel's military said dozens of missiles were launched, and residents were ordered into bomb shelters.

Earlier, Israel had launched coordinated airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, deploying warplanes and drones previously smuggled into Iranian territory.

The U.N. Security Council is set to meet following Iran's appeal, calling the attacks "state terrorism." Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei vowed “severe punishment,” while Israel’s Netanyahu said the strike was months in planning.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who was informed in advance, is convening his National Security Council amid fears of full-scale war.
