Jury selection has begun in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts woman charged with the January 2023 deaths of her three children.
According to the report, Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, and the trial is expected to last between six and eight weeks at Plymouth Superior Court.
The report said Clancy's defense plans to argue that she lacked criminal responsibility at the time of the incident, contending that she was suffering from severe postpartum depression and was taking multiple prescribed medications.
According to the report, the court will seat 18 jurors and hear testimony from more than 200 potential witnesses.
The central issue in the trial is expected to be whether Clancy understood the nature and consequences of her actions at the time of the alleged offenses, with legal experts noting that insanity defenses typically face a high evidentiary standard.
