Ukraine is urging Asian governments to tighten enforcement of sanctions against Russia, warning that foreign technology and oil trade continue supporting Moscow’s war effort.
Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s sanctions commissioner, said Russia could face severe economic pressure and potentially retreat within six months if its oil revenues were cut by at least half.
According to CNBC, Vlasiuk is visiting Singapore and plans meetings in Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan and Thailand focused on Russia’s “shadow fleet” and the flow of microelectronics into its defense industry.
Ukraine is also concerned about Southeast Asian ports being used to facilitate ship-to-ship transfers of Russian oil.
Vlasiuk warned that Russia’s activities extend beyond Ukraine, citing alleged sabotage, cyberattacks and drone incursions across Europe.
