President Donald Trump said Monday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacking each other’s energy facilities, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the arrangement as a U.S. proposal rather than a finalized agreement.
According to CNN, Zelensky said Ukraine was prepared to support a mutual halt if Russia reliably stopped targeting Ukrainian electricity, energy infrastructure and other critical facilities. He also demanded that any agreement be long-lasting.
Trump has linked rising diesel prices to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as global fuel markets face additional disruption from the war involving Iran. Diesel prices in the U.S. have risen more than 55% since that conflict began.
The report said Russian refinery damage, Ukrainian strikes, Middle East disruptions and Chinese export restrictions have tightened diesel supplies. Ukraine says its attacks target Russian revenue supporting the war.
