A small aircraft reportedly crashed into Beijing's tallest skyscraper, the 109-story CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun, on Friday afternoon, according to CNN. The incident unfolded in one of China's most heavily secured cities and prompted a large emergency response.
A CNN journalist at the scene witnessed the evacuation of the building as firefighters, police officers and ambulances responded.
Authorities had not officially commented at the time of publication. According to CNN, online images suggested the aircraft was a domestically manufactured Sunward SA 60L Aurora operated by a local aviation company.
Unverified flight data reportedly indicated the aircraft deviated sharply from its expected route before the crash. The report also noted Beijing has enforced strict restrictions on drone activity since May.
