Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland travelled to El Salvador to seek answers regarding the Trump administration’s deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who is now being held in the country’s infamous Cecot mega-prison. Van Hollen announced his arrival on social media, expressing hopes of meeting with U.S. embassy staff, Salvadoran officials, and Abrego Garcia himself.
I just landed in San Salvador a little while ago, and I look forward to meeting with the team at the U.S. embassy to discuss the release of Mr. Abrego Garcia.

I also hope to meet with Salvadoran officials and with Kilmar himself. He was illegally abducted and needs to come home. pic.twitter.com/MzKe7U8Wwr
“He was illegally abducted and needs to come home,” the senator wrote, reaffirming his commitment to securing Abrego Garcia’s return. He added that he promised Abrego Garcia’s wife he would do “everything” to help bring him back to the U.S.
