Meta has announced a major expansion of its Hyperion data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, increasing the project's planned capacity to 5 gigawatts and pushing its total investment beyond $50 billion.
According to the report, the facility will become the company's largest data center project, significantly larger than the original 2-gigawatt plan valued at $27 billion.
The report said construction began in December 2024, with local businesses already receiving more than $1.6 billion in contracts.
Meta has also committed over $1 billion toward infrastructure improvements, including upgrades to roads and water systems supporting the project.
The expansion aligns with Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg's broader strategy to invest heavily in U.S. artificial intelligence infrastructure as the company pursues long-term AI development goals.
