A reworked Section 232 tariff structure on steel, aluminum and copper took effect Monday, applying duties to the full customs value of covered goods and locking in rates through the end of 2027.
The standard rate holds at 25 percent, with breaks for trade-deal partners, USMCA-qualifying Canadian and Mexican goods, and items made with at least 85 percent U.S.-melted metal. Products with 15 percent or less metal content drop out entirely. Russian aluminum still faces 200 percent. Customs issued guidance Friday, leaving importers to reclassify fast.
