Mike Waltz, President Trump’s nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, sharply criticized the UN’s stance on China and its treatment of Israel during his Senate confirmation hearing.

Waltz accused the UN of straying from its founding mission of “peacemaking, not nation-building,” and pledged to confront what he called rising antisemitism within the institution.

“Countering China, absolutely, Senator Shaheen, is critical,” he said, adding that he would work closely with Secretary of State Marco Rubio to push back against China’s growing global influence.

He also pointed to what he described as a disproportionate number of UN resolutions against Israel, though he did not elaborate on the reasons behind them. If confirmed, Waltz would take on the role at a time of major shifts in U.S. foreign policy.
