Authorities have launched an investigation after discovering more than 50 bodies in various stages of decomposition inside a funeral home on Chicago's Far South Side.

According to state officials, the remains were being stored under severely inadequate conditions, prompting immediate regulatory action.

The report said inspectors found bodies kept in unrefrigerated areas affected by rodent and maggot infestations, raising serious concerns about health and safety standards.
