Denmark has issued a sharp warning to the White House amid renewed concern over President Donald Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland, raising fears of a serious rupture within NATO.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Greenland has repeatedly rejected joining the United States and cautioned that any U.S. military action against a NATO ally would effectively end the alliance that has underpinned Western security since World War II.

Trump reiterated that Greenland is vital to U.S. national security, citing Russian and Chinese activity in the Arctic.
Senior White House adviser Stephen Miller echoed those claims but said military force would not be required, while questioning Denmark’s authority over the territory.
Danish military officials told CNN that Russia and China do not currently pose a direct threat to Greenland and said the island is defensible due to its harsh terrain.
Still, Denmark fears Washington’s pressure could fracture the Western alliance.
