New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday unveiled the city’s first municipal strategy to combat antisemitism, outlining expanded investments in security, education and prevention programs for Jewish residents.

The plan includes $1 million for synagogue security and $6.4 million in grants for community organizations. The administration said the measures are part of a $26 million increase in hate-crime prevention funding, representing an 800% increase from the previous year.

Educational initiatives include student visits to the Museum of Jewish Heritage and a public awareness campaign on LinkNYC kiosks highlighting Jewish history and contributions.

The announcement comes amid a reported rise in hate crimes, with Jewish New Yorkers accounting for about half of recent incidents. It also follows criticism of Mamdani’s positions on Israel, including remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

City officials said the strategy was informed by a listening tour conducted earlier this year to gather community feedback.
