Nearly 1,800 people have been evacuated as wildfires continue to spread across northern Ontario, prompting officials to consider additional evacuation orders.
According to the report, almost 200 fires are burning across the region, with 13 communities either fully evacuated or in the process of evacuating as emergency crews work to contain the blazes.
The report said prolonged heat and dry conditions have intensified this year's wildfire season, with climate change contributing to longer and more severe fire periods.
According to the report, the provincial government's wildfire funding has come under scrutiny, with critics arguing that current budget allocations may not match the scale of the emergency.
Fire management officials have also called for a more proactive approach to wildfire preparedness, saying earlier deployment of resources could improve response efforts during increasingly severe fire seasons.
