Former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, revealing the health challenge weeks after her departure from the Department of Justice.
According to reports first published by Axios and confirmed by CNN on Wednesday, Bondi, 60, was diagnosed shortly after leaving her post in early April. She confirmed to networks that she underwent surgery a few weeks ago, is undergoing treatment, and is recovering well. Allies rallied around her, with former White House staffer Katie Miller posting on X in her support.
At the same time, President Donald Trump has appointed Bondi to the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), where she will help steer artificial intelligence policy. White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks praised the appointment, saying no one is better positioned to help the administration clear bureaucratic hurdles and secure America's victory in the global AI race. Vice President JD Vance also lauded the move, calling Bondi an "enormously valuable asset to the president's team."
