Postal Service Increases Stamp Prices Again

The report said the Postal Service continues to face long-term financial challenges after operating at a loss for the past decade.

The U.S. Postal Service will raise the price of a Forever stamp from 78 cents to 82 cents beginning Sunday, July 12, as part of a broader increase in mailing rates.

According to the report, the overall price adjustment averages about 4.8 percent and includes higher rates for postcards and international letters.

The report said the Postal Service continues to face long-term financial challenges after operating at a loss for the past decade.

USPS also cited its obligation under the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, which requires the agency to prefund retiree health benefits, as a factor contributing to its financial pressures.

According to the report, the Postal Regulatory Commission approved the latest rate changes in May. Domestic postcard prices will increase to 65 cents, while international letter rates will rise to $1.75.

The USPS noted that Forever stamps purchased at previous prices will remain valid for first-class mail despite the latest increase.
