A commercial tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile near the Strait of Hormuz, raising fresh concerns over maritime security as President Donald Trump traveled to a NATO summit in Turkey, reported by CNN.
According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the vessel was hit off the coast of Oman, causing a fire on its port side. No casualties or environmental damage were reported.
Iran's Fars News Agency separately reported that a Qatari oil tanker was attacked after allegedly ignoring warnings.
The incident comes as U.S.-Iran negotiations remain paused during the funeral ceremonies for former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that negotiations would not resume while threats continue. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global oil shipping route under heightened security monitoring.
