Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that Washington expects a response from Iran on a proposed peace framework aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and restarting nuclear negotiations.
Speaking in Rome during a visit to the Pope, Rubio told reporters the U.S. hoped Iran’s reply would help launch “a serious process in negotiation.”
According to Iranian state media, Tehran is still reviewing messages delivered through Pakistani mediators and has not yet issued a final response. Reports earlier this week said both sides were nearing a 14-point agreement focused on ending hostilities and reopening talks around Iran’s nuclear program.

The diplomatic push comes as tensions remain high in the Strait of Hormuz, where both countries have exchanged accusations over recent attacks. President Donald Trump insisted the ceasefire remains intact and said Iran is eager to reach a deal.
Rubio also warned that any Iranian attempt to control traffic through the strait would be “unacceptable.” The disruption has intensified fears of a global energy crisis, with the International Energy Agency calling it a major threat to energy security.
