Russia’s Ruling Party Leads Wartime Election Amid Ukraine Drone Strikes

Russia’s ruling United Russia party is on course for a decisive victory in the country’s parliamentary election, while Ukraine launched a major drone assault on the Moscow region on the final voting day.

According to Russia’s Central Election Commission, United Russia had secured 57.5% of the vote with more than 71% of ballots counted. The election is the first parliamentary vote since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Russian officials accused Ukraine of attempting to disrupt the election. The vote has faced criticism because it included territories claimed by Russia but internationally disputed.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he and President Donald Trump agreed to meet in New York during the United Nations General Assembly. Zelenskyy said they would discuss de-escalation, energy security and other issues.
