Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched a major missile and drone assault on southwestern Saudi Arabia early Tuesday, wounding at least 73 people and damaging infrastructure, according to CNN.
Saudi officials said the attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in several cities, while fires were reported at facilities in the southern region. Saudi-led coalition forces vowed a strong response and said Riyadh reserves the right to defend its territory.
The escalation also rattled energy markets. Brent crude climbed above $99 per barrel as traders assessed potential risks to Saudi oil shipments through the Red Sea.
The report said the renewed fighting threatens to widen an already volatile regional conflict.
Analysts warned that Houthi pressure around the Bab al-Mandab strait could further endanger international shipping and strengthen Iran’s ability to threaten key maritime routes.
Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait condemned the attacks.
