The U.S. Senate narrowly rejected a war powers resolution that sought to limit President Donald Trump's military operations against Iran.
The measure failed by a 50-49 vote after three Republicans joined Democrats in support, while Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell was absent because of illness.
According to the vote count, one additional vote would have been enough for the resolution to pass.
The report said the vote came as the United States intensified military operations, launching overnight strikes on Iranian military command centers and missile facilities.
Saudi Arabia also carried out strikes against Iran-backed militias in Iraq, reportedly killing at least 20 fighters.
A new poll released on Thursday found that a majority of Americans expect the conflict with Iran to continue for at least another year.
