At least six major U.S. hospital systems have reached agreements with the Department of Justice to stop providing medical gender-affirming treatments to minors, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgeries.
The agreements include NYU Langone, UPMC, Mount Sinai, Cleveland Clinic, Connecticut Children’s and Texas Children’s Hospital, following federal investigations into potential violations of healthcare and billing laws.
Similar agreements have been reached with the other hospital systems, with terms varying by institution. Connecticut Children’s, for example, agreed to stop such medical treatments for minors while continuing to provide mental healthcare.
The settlements follow a broader federal campaign by the Trump administration targeting pediatric gender-affirming care.
Hospitals have cited concerns surrounding federal investigations and demands for patient information, while the issue remains highly contested among medical organizations, policymakers and advocacy groups.
