Texas Democrats have scored a historic electoral breakthrough, winning the Senate race and capturing the governor’s office for the first time in decades, according to CNN. The results mark a major setback for Republicans, who have dominated statewide politics for 32 years.
Democrats additionally won the railroad commissioner race and were making gains in state House contests, potentially putting control of the chamber within reach.
Democratic strategists attributed the results to voter concerns over rising costs, tariffs, the Iran conflict and dissatisfaction with Republican leadership. Texas Republicans acknowledged the setback, with party officials calling for reflection.
The outcome could make Texas a more competitive battleground in future presidential elections.
