Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told senators that the Justice Department has abandoned plans to create the controversial $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund included in a settlement tied to President Donald Trump's lawsuit against the IRS, reported by CBS News.
Lawmakers from both parties questioned Blanche because the settlement agreement has not been formally amended. According to CBS News, Republican Sen. John Cornyn noted the agreement states any changes require written approval from all parties.
Blanche acknowledged the settlement remains legally enforceable and conceded that Trump's legal team could attempt to enforce it in court. However, he said he was unaware of any plans to do so and insisted the Justice Department would not proceed with the fund.
