Trial Set for Former Olympian In Lincoln Memorial Case

Former Olympic canoeist David Hearn is set to stand trial on September 28 after being charged with felony property destruction in connection with alleged damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

According to the report, prosecutors claim Hearn pulled up a section of the pool's liner during an incident in June, while Hearn maintains he only touched material that had already become detached.

The report said Hearn's attorneys have asked the court to dismiss the case, arguing that the government repaired the reflecting pool before defense experts had an opportunity to inspect the site.

According to the report, Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman denied the dismissal request without prejudice, allowing the defense to raise the issue again later, and cautioned prosecutors about proceeding with renovation work while the case remains pending.

Hearn is scheduled to appear at another hearing on September 11 before the trial begins later that month.
