The Trump administration is considering tariff relief for automakers making major investments in the United States following negotiations with Audi, Reuters reported.
President Donald Trump and Audi CEO Gernot Doellner announced plans for a $4 billion assembly plant in Georgia, expected to produce 200,000 SUVs annually and create approximately 4,500 jobs. Construction is scheduled to begin next year, with production targeted for the early 2030s, subject to Volkswagen supervisory board approval.
Audi reportedly incurred around $1.4 billion in costs last year from US tariffs on automobiles, steel and aluminium, as it imports vehicles from Europe and Mexico.
Further details could emerge in the coming weeks, as the administration considers similar incentives for other automakers investing domestically.
