President Donald Trump announced Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy ceasefire, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv had received no advance notice of the arrangement, according to CNN.

Zelensky said Ukraine would honour the proposed truce if Russia did the same. However, he accused Moscow of continuing attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, including a gas production facility struck by a Russian drone after Trump’s announcement. The Kremlin said contacts were ongoing but offered no further details.

The announcement followed Trump’s discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin over a deal to supply Russian diesel to international markets. Seven US senators, including four Republicans, urged the administration to reverse the plan, arguing it conflicted with restrictions Congress imposed after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Zelensky ruled out holding elections during the war, citing ongoing security threats. Kyiv is awaiting further details from Washington on the ceasefire’s terms and implementation.
