President Donald Trump arrived in Turkey on Tuesday for the NATO summit as the alliance faces mounting pressure from Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine and renewed U.S. demands for higher defense spending by member nations, reported by CNBC.
The summit follows Russia's latest missile and drone strikes on Kyiv, which Ukrainian officials said killed at least 11 people. Zelenskyy is expected to seek additional Western air defense assistance during the meetings.
Trump said he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to end the war, despite continued attacks. However, analysts cited by CNBC questioned whether there is evidence Moscow is prepared to negotiate. NATO allies are also under pressure to accelerate defense spending toward the alliance's 5% GDP target.
