President Donald Trump has warned he could immediately fire two senior political advisers if their outside consulting work creates a conflict of interest, according to CNN.

Trump’s comments followed a New York Times report that James Blair and Chris LaCivita traveled to Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina for paid consulting work linked to the territory’s government. The trip came shortly before local elections and less than a month before US midterm elections.

Trump said Blair and LaCivita are outside consultants and claimed he was not aware of their other clients. He said they are permitted to work for others but that he would act if a conflict emerged.

The Times reported that the two men were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars each through a Washington law firm retained by Republika Srpska’s government for election-related advice. They said their work was for the government rather than its nationalist ruling party.

Blair leads Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC, while LaCivita serves as a senior adviser.
