President Donald Trump has endorsed Sen. Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, urging her to run in the Republican special primary to retain the South Carolina Senate seat.
According to the report, Trump described Graham Nordone as a "spectacular person" and a "true American patriot," saying she shares her late brother's commitment to the country.
The report said South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster appointed Graham Nordone to the Senate on July 13 following the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham on July 11.
She was sworn into office earlier this week and said she intends to continue her brother's work despite having no previous political experience.
Candidate filing is scheduled to begin on July 21, with the Republican primary set for August 11 to determine the party's nominee for the November general election.
