President Donald Trump signaled optimism about reaching a final deal on TikTok’s U.S. ownership ahead of his expected meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the APEC Summit in South Korea this week.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said an announcement could come “in a couple of days,” suggesting both leaders will finalize terms initially framed during trade talks in Malaysia.

The deal reportedly involves U.S. investors led by Oracle taking majority control of TikTok, while ByteDance retains under 20 percent. China’s foreign ministry maintained its “consistent position,” offering no confirmation.

The talks follow months of renewed trade tensions, including tariff threats and Chinese export curbs on rare earths. Trump has since softened his stance, calling higher tariffs “not sustainable.”

Analysts say a potential TikTok deal could ease tensions temporarily, but deeper structural disputes between Washington and Beijing will remain.
