US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said President Donald Trump would prefer to end the conflict with Iran through diplomacy, although Washington retains the capacity for further military action.

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has directed the country's armed forces to respond immediately to threats and expand their ability to target US and Israeli assets. Trump, meanwhile, told Right Side Broadcasting Network that the conflict could end through a negotiated agreement or military action.

Separately, Tehran designated Britain's Military Intelligence Services a hostile group, accusing London of supporting US operations. The move followed Britain's designation of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation.
