Preisdent Donald Trump may have ruled out Stephen Miller as National Security Advisor, calling the role “a downgrade” for the senior aide. “I have him much higher in the totem pole,” Trump told NBC, signalling Miller's elevated status within the administration. The dismissal comes amid speculation that Miller, a key architect of Trump’s immigration policies, might take over the national security portfolio.

Instead, Trump has appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as acting National Security Advisor, following the departure of Mike Waltz amid leaked internal military planning communications on Signal. Trump also noted that Rubio is “very busy” and is expected to hold the dual role only temporarily. In the same breath, he hinted at continuing the combined structure of national and homeland security roles, a model reminiscent of Henry Kissinger’s tenure under Nixon.
