President Donald Trump called on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to resume traffic stops, a day after his administration temporarily suspended most of the practice following two fatal shootings during immigration enforcement operations, reported by CNN.
Trump described traffic stops as one of ICE's most effective crime-fighting tools and argued they remain essential to enforcing immigration laws.
The pause followed the deaths of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston and Joan Sebastian Durán Guerrero in Maine. According to officials, neither man was the intended target of the enforcement operations. Federal authorities said officers acted in self-defense, while relatives and witnesses disputed those accounts.
The report said multiple investigations have been launched by state, local and federal agencies into both shootings. Authorities are also examining a separate fatal incident involving a Mexican national in Florida during an attempted enforcement action.
