President Donald Trump has nominated former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh to succeed Jerome Powell as chair of the Federal Reserve, ending months of speculation over the central bank’s leadership.

Trump praised Warsh’s experience and said he would restore credibility at the Fed after years of disputes with Powell over interest rate policy.

Warsh, 55, previously served on the Fed’s board and has called for major changes to its leadership and approach.

Market analysts said the nomination is unlikely to cause volatility, noting Warsh’s reputation as an independent policymaker. Inflation remains above the Fed’s 2 percent target, while economic growth and hiring have slowed.

The nomination comes as the Fed faces increased political scrutiny and legal pressure. Warsh must still secure Senate confirmation, where objections from some lawmakers could delay the process.
