President Donald Trump convened a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday as his administration moves to finalize a deal to end the conflict with Iran. Trump is aiming to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and reduce Tehran's nuclear capabilities, according to a CNN news report.
Under the emerging agreement, Tehran would surrender its stockpile of highly enriched uranium in exchange for targeted sanctions relief.
Trump said on Truth Social that the uranium, buried under facilities battered by U.S. airstrikes last year, will either be turned over to the U.S. or destroyed under international supervision.
Trump is also pushing for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan to formally join the Abraham Accords as part of the final package.
The potential deal has drawn scrutiny from conservative senators on Capitol Hill. Republicans Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, and Roger Wicker have raised concerns that sanctions relief could embolden the Iranian regime, warning against any similarities to the 2015 Obama-era nuclear pact.
The administration says American leverage remains strong. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters: "He's either going to make a good deal or no deal."
