President Donald Trump released declassified intelligence documents during a primetime address, saying they identify what he described as five major areas of concern related to election integrity and alleged foreign interference in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
The report said Trump alleged China sought to influence the election by reducing support for his campaign.
He argued that the newly released documents raise fresh questions about the handling of intelligence related to foreign interference during the 2020 election.
According to the report, previous U.S. intelligence assessments reached different conclusions.
A 2021 assessment led by then-Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines stated with high confidence that China did not interfere in the administration of the 2020 election, although it assessed that Beijing considered efforts to influence the broader political environment.
