President Donald Trump has warned Iran against expanding activity at the suspected nuclear facility at Pickaxe Mountain, saying the US would respond forcefully, according to the report.
The warning came as hostilities intensified around the Strait of Hormuz. Iran claimed it launched ballistic missiles at a US base in Jordan and attacked 10 ships near the critical waterway. US Central Command previously said five Iranian oil tankers were destroyed after attacks on a US Navy vessel.
CSIS said the activity appeared suspicious but could not confirm whether centrifuges had been moved underground.
Oil prices climbed above $100 a barrel amid concerns about supply disruptions. Trump said he expects the war to continue until after the November midterm elections and argued that short-term economic costs are justified to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
