Two people were killed and several others, including Minneapolis police officers, were injured Wednesday after a gunman opened fire at the Loring Towers apartment complex in downtown Minneapolis. The suspected shooter, who lived in the building, also died at the scene.
Police responded shortly after 4:30 p.m. and encountered victims inside the high-rise. Officers reported severely limited visibility on upper floors before gunfire erupted.
Seven people were treated at Hennepin Healthcare, including three police officers, with one officer requiring surgery.
According to court records and witness accounts, the suspected shooter was reportedly facing eviction and had previously shown firearms to building management.
The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives joined the investigation. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and FBI Director Kash Patel pledged state and federal assistance.
Authorities urged residents to avoid the Loring Park area as investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
