Two Ole Miss Students Die On Campus As Investigations Continue

The University of Mississippi is investigating the deaths of two students who died Monday after emergency responders were called to Stewart Hall on campus following reports of a possible overdose.

The students, aged 18 and 20, were found dead in separate incidents, according to Lafayette County Coroner Glenn Coleman.

Investigators found packaged kratom during both investigations, but the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit said there is currently no confirmed evidence that the substance contributed to either death. Authorities have also found no evidence that the two deaths are connected.

The deaths come amid broader efforts in Oxford to address overdose risks. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch recently provided Ole Miss students with training on administering Narcan, while the city offers free Narcan through vending machines. Final determinations on the students’ causes of death remain pending.
