The United States launched airstrikes against targets along Iran's southern coast on Friday after accusing Tehran of violating a recently agreed ceasefire by attacking commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to U.S. officials, the military response followed an incident in which Iranian forces allegedly launched four drones at vessels transiting the strategic waterway.
No casualties were immediately reported, but the incident raised fresh concerns about the security of one of the world's most important maritime trade routes.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies pass, was due to remain open under a 60-day ceasefire arrangement intended to restore safe commercial navigation.
The exchange marks a renewed escalation in regional tensions, with global shipping and energy markets closely monitoring developments in the Gulf.
