Passengers are expected to undergo quarantine in Nebraska, home to the National Quarantine Unit and Nebraska Biocontainment Unit. Nebraska Medicine said its teams are prepared to safely handle the situation if needed.
According to CNN, at least eight hantavirus cases linked to the ship have been confirmed, including three deaths. Around 17 Americans were reportedly on board.
Several U.S. states, including Arizona, California, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, and New Jersey, are monitoring passengers who previously left the ship. Health officials said none have shown symptoms so far.
President Donald Trump said the situation is “very much, we hope, under control.”
