U.S. Pushes Global Coalition To Reopen Strait Of Hormuz

The United States is seeking international backing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that remains closed amid escalating tensions with Iran.

According to Reuters, a State Department cable shows Washington is urging allies to join a proposed “Maritime Freedom Construct” to restore navigation and enforce sanctions.

The report said the closure has disrupted nearly a fifth of global oil and gas supplies, driving prices sharply higher and raising fears of an economic slowdown. President Donald Trump is expected to review new military options as talks with Iran remain stalled.

Iran has warned of retaliation if the US blockade continues, while insisting its nuclear programme is peaceful. According to Reuters, Tehran has largely restricted shipping through the strait since February.

European allies have expressed caution, saying they may support reopening efforts only after hostilities end. The standoff continues to strain global markets and regional stability.
