President Donald Trump has removed tariffs on Scotch whisky imports following a state visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, in a move seen as easing recent tensions between Washington and London.
Trump announced the decision on Truth Social, saying the rollback was made “in honor” of the royal visit. According to CNBC, the policy change applies to all whisky tariffs, including Irish whiskey. The report said the tariffs had disrupted a previously duty-free trade system and hurt exports.

The Scotch whisky sector, which supports around 40,000 jobs in Scotland, had reportedly been losing millions weekly due to the tariffs. Industry leaders welcomed the move, calling it a relief for distillers.
Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney thanked Trump, noting jobs were at risk. The development highlights renewed momentum in US-UK trade ties following strained political exchanges in recent weeks.
