U.S. Sends Humanitarian Aid Flight To Cuba Amid Diplomatic Tensions

The United States has dispatched its first humanitarian aid flight to Cuba under a new assistance package, with a cargo aircraft carrying 700 packages of food and hygiene supplies from Miami.

The initiative, valued at $60 million, is intended to deliver aid directly to communities while bypassing the Cuban government.

The report said the humanitarian effort follows an earlier relief program that provided direct assistance after Hurricane Melissa and coincides with increased U.S. pressure on Cuba's military and intelligence institutions.

Catholic Relief Services said it has worked with local religious leaders to help ensure aid reaches intended recipients without political interference.

According to the report, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez dismissed the shipment as insignificant, arguing it does little to offset the economic impact of longstanding U.S. sanctions.

The development comes as the U.S. State Department released a document accusing Cuba of carrying out decades of espionage and influence operations in the United States, further straining relations between the two countries.
