UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham exchanged messages with someone impersonating White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, according to a source familiar with the incident.
A White House official stressed that Wiles’ devices were not hacked and that the incident was an impersonation attempt.
The episode comes after similar phishing efforts targeting people connected to Wiles. In 2025, US law enforcement investigated attempts to impersonate her, with several prominent Americans receiving suspicious messages.
Wiles had previously told Trump administration officials that her personal phone and contact list may have been compromised. According to a senior White House official, the impersonator targeted high-profile contacts, including business executives, senators and governors.
Downing Street declined to comment on national security matters.
