US defense technology company Aevex Aerospace is partnering with Taiwan’s Coretronic Intelligent Robotics Corporation to produce combat-tested drones locally, according to the report.
The partnership is also aimed at strengthening Taiwan’s wartime supply chain. Aevex says its 3D-printing technology allows drones to be rapidly manufactured and modified based on battlefield needs.
Taiwan plans to produce the aircraft at CIRC’s facility in Zhunan, with potential capacity of 4,000 drones monthly. Economic Affairs Minister Kung Ming-hsin said Taiwan needs more than 200,000 drones for deterrence and wants components sourced through supply chains excluding mainland Chinese products.
The government is investing billions of Taiwan dollars to develop its unmanned-systems industry and reduce reliance on overseas resupply.
